What is a Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund ISA?

A Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund ISA is a Stocks and Shares ISA that invests in the Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund.

This is usually done with a self-select or DIY ISA where you choose your own investments and you select the Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund.

What is a Stocks and Shares ISA?

A Stocks and Shares ISA is an investment account that shelters your savings from UK taxes.

This means that dividends you receive from your ISA investments are free from income tax, and you also don’t need to pay capital gains tax on the growth of your investments when you come to sell them.

HMRC allows you to contribute up to £20,000 to ISA accounts in each tax year. This is referred to as your ISA allowance.

What is the Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund?

The Baillie Gifford American Fund is a managed investment fund controlled by Baillie Gifford’s professional fund managers.

What does the Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund invest in?

The fund’s main aim is to outperform (net of costs) the MSCI ACWI Index by at least 2% per annum over five-year periods.

The MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI) is a global equity index that tracks the performance of over 3,000 companies in developed and emerging markets.

The fund will also invest at least 90% of its capital in companies whose products or behaviour make a positive impact on the societies and environments that they operate in (in the opinion of the fund managers).

For example, companies that have a positive impact on:

  1. Education
  2. Social inclusion
  3. Healthcare
  4. The environment

Risk Level

The fund is classed as higher risk, with a risk grade of 6 out of 7 towards the ‘adventurous’ side of the scale.

This means that the value of the fund can fluctuate significantly both up and down compared to lower risk funds and investments.

You could get back less that what you originally invest.

How do I open a Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund ISA?

To invest, you’ll need to first open a self-select Stocks and Shares ISA with your chosen provider.

You can add up to £20,000 to a new Stocks and Shares ISA this tax year, and you can then invest in the Baillie Gifford Positive Change Fund within your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. You can switch providers with an ISA transfer if you wish. You can also contribute to other ISA providers in separate tax years.

ISA accounts are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This means that all ISA providers are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) for up to £85,000 if they go out of business.

Please note that this may not apply to the underlying holdings within a Stocks and Shares ISA, and will not cover standard investment losses.

No, ISA stands for Individual Savings Account and must be solely owned for tax purposes.

You can withdraw money at any time from your Stocks and Shares ISA.

You will be charged an annual management charge from your investment ISA provider, and you may also need to pay ad hoc administration and dealing charges.

The funds you invest in may also charge an annual fee.

You can withdraw online, by phone or by post. You will need to sell your investments first and you may be charged a dealing fee to do this.

Most ISA withdrawals will complete in approximately five working days, but they could take longer depending on the assets you need to sell.

The annual ISA allowance is set by HMRC each year, and the current limit is £20,000 per person for the 2023/24 tax year.
