What is a Property Stocks and Shares ISA?

What is a Property Stocks and Shares ISA?

An ISA is a tax-free wrapper where you can house up to £20,000 of your savings this tax year. For those looking to diversify their stocks and shares Investment ISA portfolio, there are lots of different options for investing in Property which we’ve broken down in this blog.

What is a Property Stocks and Shares ISA?

A Property ISA is not a type of ISA like a Cash, Innovative or Stocks and Shares ISA. It’s a type of investment or fund which you can invest in through a Stocks and Shares or an Innovative ISA. Being in an ISA, this means any returns you gain from this investment are protected from the taxman.

These allow you to invest in property without having to invest in one specific property – instead you can invest in a fund which in turn invests in property.

What kind of property can I invest in through an ISA?

There are lots of different kinds of property you can invest in through ISA funds.

You could, for example, choose a fund which is invested in commercial property. These will generate capital growth of funds or income from rent - which is then paid into funds (and ergo, paid to investors as a dividend).

Examples of commercial properties supported by these funds are retail parks or business parks. For your investment in this fund, you’ll receive returns in the same way as any other Investment ISA.

You can invest in UK-only property as well as funds which specifically invest your money in global property.

There are a whole host of different property ISA funds which you can take out, and you’re able to invest from £100 so if you’re looking to diversify your investment portfolio, a Property Stocks and Shares ISA could be a good way to go.
