Redland Roofing SystemsNew fixing standards calculator Information Systems was asked to design and develop a complex calculation program for Redland Roofing Systems. The Rational Unified Process was used to analyse risks and this resulted in prioritisation of the development and testing of the calculation engine as a stand alone component. This ensured that time was not wasted on development of the intuitive front end until the calculation interface had been finalised. It also enables the calculation component to be used in other systems, such as an Internet based version. The purpose of the system was to support the new British Standards for roofing fixing specifications and to enable distribution of the software to roofing product distributors. The system contains a UK database with local average windspeeds, altitude and geographic characteristics that are used during the calculation of uplift forces and hence fixing requirements. Redland Roofing Systems is Britain's foremost roofing products manufacturer with a pedigree stretching back to 1919. Redland Roofing Systems is a member of Lafarge Braas Roofing, the world's largest dedicated provider of roofing systems. |
